Obituary

Faye Amsbury passed away on June 17, 2020 at the age of 59.  Her spirit continues to shine through her son, Paul Amsbury and his wife, Jannette and their two daughters, Rae and Natalie.  Her daughter Frances lives on, along with her wife Oona and their son, Samuel.

Faye was the type of woman who lived for her family, good food and big celebrations.  She was a friend to all, and a mentor to many.  Her personality was sometimes bigger than life, yet made you feel like the center of attention.  She was always welcoming.  You knew you had a place at her table, and her door was always open.

Faye certainly worked to live. Now, this could be misinterpreted as not enjoying what she did.  On the contrary,  Faye never considered her career work, because she loved it so.  If you’ve ever visited any of our art museums, there’s a good chance you ran into Faye.  But an even better chance that you were moved by something she quietly curated and executed.  She was instrumental in developing the generous and priceless collection of art our city now takes pride in.  There’s a chance you wouldn’t know any of this, as Faye was a humble woman.  Never one to speak about herself; her work, warm hugs and reputation did that for her.

Faye will be missed.  She was an important piece to this puzzle of life.  She was able to leave us all better for knowing her.  Better for just being in her presence.  May we all find someone who can listen as well.  Someone who can make art relatable to anyone.  Someone who resonates love and light.  Covid-19 has taken too many too soon.  The world lost Faye and thousands of others during the prime of their life when they had so much to live for.  May we remember this in the future as to not allow anyones flame to be blown out.
